Themester

This course focuses on representations of the animal in modern and contemporary literature and film, with emphasis on the aesthetic issues that arise when we seek to imagine and interact with other animals. We will consider how writers and filmmakers from Lewis Carroll to Werner Herzog have explored divides between humans and animals and how the figure of the animal challenges us to confront not only the animal before us but our own sense of what it means to be human as well.
