Course Description

In March 2020, French President Macron launched “Operation Resilience” signaling his country’s determination to find a successful response to the challenge of the global pandemic. We will examine a variety of cultural materials such as mass-media and social media, literature, film, and visual art to understand and learn from how France has adapted or failed to adapt to the issues of economic and social justice, racism and immigration, political polarization, and the pressures for rethinking group and individual identities highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This course fulfills an IUB GenEd A&H credit, IUB GenEd World Culture credit,  COLL (CASE) A&H, and COLL (CASE) Global Civ & Culture credit.
