Programming proposals

Themester 2023: Lux et Veritas | Light and Truth

The College is looking for scholarly and creative activities and events that engage the undergraduate population with the theme of Lux et Veritas | Light and Truth and complement Themester-affiliated courses.

Themester is meant to inspire discussion and reflection on important topics within and across disciplines. To this end, and to better leverage limited resources, multidisciplinary events and partnerships between departments, offices, student groups, and other university units are encouraged. Of special interest are fall events and activities that anticipate and discuss topics relevant to the historic total solar eclipse to occur on April 8, 2024.

Deadline: June 1

Themester 2023 takes place during the fall semester.

Types of activities

Past events and activities in the Themester have included:

Lectures and panel discussions
Colloquia and Workshops
Art exhibits

Museum programming and exhibits
Film screenings
Creative Performances

Proposal requirements

Please include the following in proposals:

a description of the proposed programming and how it links to the theme
a 100-200 word description for the purposes of promotion
any direct or indirect curricular connection (reaching out to or consulting with relevant faculty is strongly recommended)
expected audience (specific majors, campus or community groups that might be engaged)
value (any additional value or impact for that has not been previously discussed)
a budget, including the departmental or co-sponsoring unit’s financial contribution, pending contributions and partners, and the amount of Themester funding required
proposed date(s) and times
proposed venue
any initiatives already taken with regard to the event
publicity efforts that will be undertaken by you or your department
contact information (include the organizer as well as those responsible for communications/publicity and fiscal matters)
