The Themester podcast series features College of Arts and Sciences’ faculty exploring ideas framed by this year’s theme. Join us as we discuss racial representation, experiences of black women, religious and social influences on identity, disability in the United States, and LGBTQ+ identification in rural communities.
Brooklynn Shively (she/her) is a junior studying Media Management, Law and Policy along with Financial Literacy. In addition to Themester, Brooklynn is a marketing coordinator and the producer of SEASON Fashion Magazine’s podcast “What’s in Season?” at Indiana University. She is interested in art, culture, current events, and media which coalesce in her position at Themester.
Kate O’Brien (she/her) is a senior dual majoring in English and Public Relations Journalism. Alongside working as a production assistant and podcast intern for Themester, she also has worked with Indiana University’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Kate is interested in creative and narrative writing, as well as interacting with media and art in the educational world. She’s thrilled to be working once again with Themester for its fall 2022 theme “Identity and Identification.”
Curren Gauss (she/her) is thrilled to be a podcast host and production intern for IU Themester! She enjoyed not only writing (her favorite thing) about Identity and Identification, but chatting with incredible educators about their personal identities and experiences in their fields. Outside of Themester, Curren has interned at PATTERN Magazine as a journalism and social media intern, content edited and written for the Indiana Daily Student, been an invited writer for the Kennedy Center Young American Playwrights Festival, and most recently is starting her own literary-arts magazine at IU! Curren is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. She loves writing, art in any form and talking a lot — which is all to say that she hopes you enjoy this series as much as she enjoyed collaborating on it.
Amanda Tinkle (she/her) is a senior studying Cinema and Media Studies with specializations in Scriptwriting and Media Persuasion. She is also pursuing a minor in Religious Studies. Outside of podcasting for IU Themester, Amanda is spending this fall studying in Los Angeles through the Semester in LA program. Her semester apartment is located in the heart of West Hollywood and she is having a blast with her roommates. She is taking on two other internships, one in production and the other in development. She loves to write and create impactful stories for the screen, no matter the medium. Brainstorming ideas is her favorite pastime and she has her own podcast with IUSTV titled AmanduhTalks. Back in Bloomington, you would find her spending time with her two cattos, going to class, grabbing Starbucks, on the set of Not Too Late, reading, studying, writing, or playing a video game.
