Framing Sukkot
What does it mean to be home? What does it mean to remember the past? These are just two of the topics examined in the photography exhibit, Framing Sukkot. In exploring the ritual structures known as sukkah, memory and the act of remembering are also explored. The Jewish holiday Sukkot serves as a point of reflection on cultural and personal pasts as well as an opportunity through which to create new family and community memories. Traveling to Tel Aviv, Brooklyn, and parts of Bloomington, the exhibit looks at simple structures built by homeowners that serve to connect modern people with ancient practices and histories, including the events recounted in the story of the Jewish exodus from Egypt.
