Robert Sierra's "I Am Carmen Miranda," a work for voice and large chamber ensemble, was set to take place at Auer Hall on Nov. 15, but will be postponed until February due to the loss of two members of the ensemble accompanying soprano Alejandra Villarreal Martínez.
"With the challenging nature of the piece and the little time remaining, we are realistically going to have to postpone," said Martínez.
Martínez is pursuing her DMA degree from the Jacobs School of Music and holds a Professional Studies Certificate from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Known as the "Bombshell Brazilian," Carmen Miranda was known for her extravagant performances and notable fruit-inspired wardrobe. Martínez says she feels caught up in Miranda's legacy, which inspired her partially to organize this event.
