IU MFA student AJ O'Reilly explored the theme of "Remembering and Forgetting." An interview with him is below.
What was the inspiration behind your work?
AJ: The main inspiration was movement and sound. When we spoke to faculty there were words that stuck out to me such as movement. I was trying to find a way to express that in a printed 2-D form.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome?
AJ: The biggest challenge was finding the line between abstract and legible. The poster still needed to read and deliver information to the viewer while evoking a sense of the theme visually.
What's your favorite part of your poster?
AJ: My favorite part is how the colors interact. I thought it was a nice surprise that they turn out so soft and delicate.
Did your vision change throughout the design process?
AJ: Not very much. I knew from the start I wanted to focus on movement and tried many ways to capture that feeling.
