IU MFA student Kate L'Heureux explored the theme of "Remembering and Forgetting." An interview with her is below.
What was the inspiration behind your work?
Kate: I was inspired in the beginning to try and create a texture that would encircle both ideas of remembering and forgetting and how cyclical the act of memory is, what a whole experience it was. I was really drawn to the idea of capturing that with a texture using ink.
Did your vision change throughout the design process?
Kate: One part that changed throughout the process way the integration of color in my poster design.
Could you tell us about your process for creating the poster?
Kate: Printmaker Karen Kunc was a huge inspiration behind my change in vision - she gives her work small "jewels of color" by choosing to insert small dots or squares of bright, sometimes neon colors, in seemingly random places on her pieces during the final stages of printing. I like how she takes these small risks with her work, using color especially.
What’s your favorite part of your poster?
Kate: Probably my favorite part of the poster is the way the cloud of bubbles roll onto the poster, allowing the viewer to choose what they like from the abstract imagery, perhaps seeing firing neurons or maybe a cloudy nature landscape.
