For democracy to successfully prosper, there must be a balance among reason, emotion, and interest. My pictorial representation evolved from observing democracy as the continual strive for equality through its political principles of citizen rule and freedom of speech. In my representation, I strove to portray the power of the people through an informal, energetic composition. My ultimate goal was to break out of the formality of the topic and focus on democracy and its relation to parity; hence, the overlapping of the hands and blending mode effects, which allow for a dynamic, visual representation of togetherness and unity. This symbolic system of hands reflects the true meaning of democracy, solidarity, and like democracy, art shares many of the same characteristics. Both embody the freedom of expression, open choice, and diversity of representation, which is why their relationship with one another is the prized aspect of this poster.
