The College seeks interns for Themester 2023: Light and Truth

By: Audrey Clinkert, Themester 2023 Senior Intern

Tuesday, February 7, 2023

Themester is searching for interns to help close out the program’s fifteen year run with the College of Arts and Sciences. This fall semester’s theme is Lux et Veritas | Light and Truth. Inspired by IU’s motto, this theme will explore the nature of truth and inquiry. Interns that are interested in learning more about how we know what we know, and how we grapple as individuals and communities with various forms of knowledge, are encouraged to apply.

The Themester internship experience can be completely personalized to the intern’s strengths, career goals, and schedule while also exposing them to new opportunities to develop underexplored skills. Interns will be given opportunities to develop and improve skills in team collaboration, independent work, problem solving, creativity, and written and verbal communications.

Application deadline: Feb. 15

Within the Communications and Outreach internship, there is a wide range of opportunities and experiences for interns to customize their internship experience. Past interns have directed the Themester podcast, managed tabling at the First Thursdays Festival, led Themester partnered screenings and Q&A sessions at IU Cinema, wrote articles and newsletters for Themester events and partnerships, edited the Themester webpage, interviewed professors of Themester sponsored courses, curated posts for Themester’s social media pages, and even worked as leadership at weekly intern meetings.

Interns on the Design team will be responsible for creating and curating images to promote Themester activities and events. This internship exposes interns to the professional realm of digital design, using programs such as InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator.

A large portion of this experience is working alongside the Communications and Outreach interns in order to implement a social media plan and outreach strategies. Promotional material designed by past interns have been used for social media posts, event programs, flyers, posters, and print advertising.

This year, Themester is offering a new assignment for design interns. In previous years, the Themester “theme” posters have been designed by IU students as part of a design class, but this opportunity is now being offered to Themester’s design interns.

Those who are interested in designing a poster for this fall’s theme of Lux et Veritas | Light and Truth are especially encouraged to apply.

Alongside individualized tasks and assignments, interns are encouraged to attend Themester events as a representative of the program. This allows interns to further develop their understanding of the semester’s theme as well as practice working with event coordinators and attendees to ensure a smooth and successful event.
